WASHINGTON, April 1 – In response to the new model year 2012-2016 automobile and light-truck fuel economy mandates, NADA Chairan ToEmdnkin released the following statement: "These new rules are the most expensive fuel economy mandates in history. In part, this is a result of three different fuel economy standards set by three different agencies (U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board) under three different sets of rules. This is in direct contradiction to the one national fuel economy standard established by Congress in 2007."

WASHINGTON, April 16 — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has indicated that the Senate may expedite consideration of the financial reform bill that calls for creation of a new Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.

Ed Tonkin, in an interview for NADA-TV, below, says "time is critical" for dealers to contact their Senators and urge them to support the Brownback Amendment. Sen. Sam Brownback's (R-Kan.) amendment would exempt dealers from the bureau.

"Keep in mind, the House exempted auto dealers from its financial reform bill for good reason. The Senate should do the same," Tonkin says. "Auto dealers should never have been included in the Senate bill in the first place. The Brownback Amendment will correct that mistake," Tonkin added.

NADA's legislative office is urging dealers to remind their Senators that dealers' ‘Main Street’ businesses did not contribute to the financial melt down, and that auto financing is already well regulated at both the federal and state levels.

"Another layer of burdensome regulation will limit access and increase the cost of credit for all car buyers," Tonkin says.

Now Peter Adams’ men are hungry for revenge. He said: “People say it will be a tough meeting for us, and it will, but it will be tough for Poole as well. “They are a very good side, but so are we. And it’s all well and good being the top team in April, but the secret is to be the top team in September and October when the play-offs come around!”

REIGNING World Champion Jason Crump romped to victory in a Grand Prix thriller in Poland – and then admitted he didn’t expect to be there! The former Belle Vue and Poole man was badly hurt at the end of last season and is still short of full fitness.


He said: “I didn’t expect to be here today, so it was a bit of a bonus really. At the end of last season, I thought I would be able to start defending the World Championship in about June if I was lucky. “So it’s a big bonus to be here at the start of the season and an even bigger bonus to get into the final.”
